Willkommen bei Sitio do Cabo, Ponta do Pargo
Hi wwoofers !
We are a Belgian couple, Johan and Nastja and have two kids, Myrko (9) and Tika (6).Johan is an experienced gardener and musician, Nastja is a jewelrydesigner and loves to cook and the kids love to explore the miracles of life and making new friends.
We came here in 1997. Since then, our garden grew every year with a lot of work to be done.
On the 18th of july 2012 our garden is destroyed by forestfires.
The whole garden is gone, all trees, fruittrees, vegetables and plantspecies.
Fortunately we are safe and so is our house.
Now, a few months later, we are trying to get new energy to start allover again. It is hard and heavy but with some good help we should manage.
We are for the moment looking for experienced helpers.
We will need to replant, rebuild and renew the whole project.
Heavy jobs need to be done, moving stones, making new terraces, digging out trees and planting new ones. We need people that have experience in gardening, wood-and metal construction and welding. We also need people that know how to work on their own, because me and my husband also need time for our other jobs.
We are also working on a project near the sea. It is a very special place , difficult to reach, a few terraces down from the main road, only accessable by steps. We planted some more tropical species down there and we want to build a small wooden house.
Day by day jobs in our garden include seed sowing; weeding; digging; growing and care of food-producing and other plants. We also ask you to help in the kitchen and to take care of the children once in a while.
Here we have a very moderate climate all year around, temperatures between 15 and 25°C. We prefer wwoofers to stay with us for at least three weeks, so we have enough time to get to know each other and share each others lifestyle. We provide a guestroom with double bed and private bathroom, so one or two people at the same time is best. We are all-eaters but vegeterian meals are no problem. Nastja always likes to learn about new cooking experiences.
We would like you to work with us during the week, five hours a day. Although the hours and days are flexible, as things we do always depend on the weather and on how work advances. We really need people that are interested in what they are doing.
This means for us; willing to work a few hours per day, smart enough to identify seedlings whilst taking out the bad weeds, willing to make your hands dirty.
In weekends you can go for a swim or explore the rest of the island. Ther is busconnection to other parts of the island and two bicycles are ready to use.
Swimming, hiking, surfing, paragliding, boattrips and much more to do during days off.
Although the next few months will be more about recovering our project you can still learn a lot about growing plants, transforming them into compost, food, wine, and other things that make life more comfortable and about enjoying the gifts of nature!
Welcome !
