Welcome to O Monte

"O Monte" is located just outside of the village Santa Catarina, 10 min. on foot , with a grocery, bank, cafe's, simple restaurant, post-office and bus-stop.
Essentially: I am a (dutch) woman + 2 dogs, 1 cat , thinking i could do it all. I restored the ruin and now have a wonderful home with a guesthouse on over 2 hect.of land. The generous land + harvests are the best part of living here but my back is aching.
Important: I do not receive wwoofers during the summer months July, August and september.
The carob and olive harvests ( months 9,10,11) are most demanding. Also I look for help making a decent composting system and a vegetable+herb garden, pruning trees, weeding and clearing the land; "O Monte" gets its hot water from solar panels. There is a guesthouse I rent out mostly in summer. There is a (non-heated) pool that you are welcome to use when there are no guests. I am happy to receive short-term wwoofers ( 2 at the most at one time), even for a few days when the weeds in the garden are going wild ( a "no-pesticide" policy on "O Monte" ). The languages I speak are Dutch, English, French and Portuguese. I ask for 5/6 hours of work per day. (flexible and depending on the the work). I can offer a comforatable stay in guesthouse or annex, (see website) The meals that I provide are without meat, but with occasional fish. On workdays I provide lunch and dinner. Breakfasts are taken seperately but I will provide all (basic) food. Lunch & dinners we have together, We cook in turns.
I allow no drugs nor too much alcohol. all in all ..a simple and quiet country life, books, great beaches, hiking paths in the hills with breathtaking scenery, cinema in Tavira and Faro, Seville and Lisbon easy (2hrs) weekend destinations by bus and/or train. One can take a bus from the nearby village (10 min. on foot).
