Welcome to Moinhos do Dao

Moinhos do Dão is a small homestead and rural tourism business located on the banks of the Dão river; the perfect place for people who want to be surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty, experience rural Portugal, and enjoy the comfort of a small and open hearted community. The Moinhos do Dão is run by a Dutch-American couple and a group of long time volunteers. We are located in a tranquil green valley in an ecological reserve. Over the course of 23 years this old millers farm has been turned into a off the grid and partially self sustaining homestead and rural tourism business that has become a place loved and visited by many.

In 2013 we will be expanding our food producing gardens, work on upgrades in our solar and hydro-power systems and work on ongoing building and terrain maintenance.
Between April and October we are always looking for volunteers to assist with our vegetable garden and/or assist with general terrain and facilities maintenance. We prefer working with volunteers who have some basic knowledge of and experience with these areas of work. If you are interested in volunteering with us please send us a message explaining why you’d like to volunteer, what skills you bring with you, and information about yourself like what motivates you in life and what your interests are. We can only respond to volunteers that send us a message with this information.
