About ourselves:
Moinhos Velhos is a holistic health retreat for fasting, detoxification, cleansing and purification of body, mind and spirit of our clients. At the same time we want to build up a permaculture-garden to provide us with a greater yield of organic food and we are in the planning stage of several eco-projects, like building a compost toilet or having our solar system improved.
Our community consists of the live-in staff and people, who come from outside to help us. Living here are Frank and Anne Karine (who are the founder of this place) Janni (who is doinjg marketing), and Philine (who is our gardener and also taking care of the volunteers). Beta (who is taking care of the laundry and the guest rooms), Claudia (who is doing the accountance), Gwyn (who is our housekeeper and doing the juices for the guests) and several yoga teacher, massage therapists come during the day to work here.
We speak English, Portuguese, Norwegian, Russian and German.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for all kinds of people, we love diversity and welcome everybody. There is just two things important for us, we ask all our volunteers to have no problems with drugs or alcohol and they must be non-smokers due to our retreat-concept. Also we prefer people from the age 20 onwards. We have a pactise of yoga and meditation here, so of course it's not obligatory, but it would be nice if you like to share that with us. If you are interested in permaculture, it's great, but we are really happy about everyone who likes to work with the nature instead of against it.
We try to eat as healthy as possible here, with a lot of raw food, and almost vegan. People interested in cooking vegan / glutenfree / preparing rawfood will be welcomed with open arms! :-)
About the work:
Our garden used to be a conventional vegetable garden with many fruit trees. Philine is working on a permaculture design for it, so that the transition to a permaculture garden can take place. The work to do will involve creating raised and hill beds, sowing, planting, harvesting, mulching, weeding and so on.
As our many fruit and other trees, grew a bit wild in the last years, we'd be especially happy if we could find somebody with special knowledge about pruning.
We would also like to build a little tool shed close to the garden, and a compost toilet next to the bathroom. So if you are interested / skilled in carpentry, this is another possibility to work here.
Also there are many stone walls in need of repair. Elictricians, solarpanelexperts and plumbers are also welcomed. So are free energy inventors, herbalists, or anybody who knows about essential oils.
We are also looking for someone who knows about maintenance and could be in charge of that area and is interested in staying with us for long term. For this person we will pay a small salary.
This is a long list of our dreams, if your talents ly in other areas don't worry, we are happy about everybody who likes to help and learn!!
We all share the cooking for the whole week between us.
We work six hours a day for five days a week and have two days-off.
What we provide:
The rooms we provide are small and simple, but each includes a bed, chair and shelves. We have two single rooms, one room with a doublebed and one shared room with three beds available. We provide linen and towles. As we don't have many rooms, please tell us early enough, when you would like to come, so that we can reserve a room for you.
The bathroom is shared by our live-in-staff, there are two showers and two normal toilets and we are planning to soon build a compost toilet as well.
The food is mainly vegetarian or even vegan.
We have free and wireless internet. There is one computer for sharing in the living room, but you are welcome to bring your own laptop also.
Unfortunately, we have no mobile telephone signal in our place. But, it's easy to get reception if you just walk five minutes up the hill.
You are welcome to use our staff-car on your days-off.
