our village is within walking distance from the farm and has a cafe, shop and bakery. Our nearest town is Cercal and the nearest train station is at Funcheira. The Alentejo baixo is a very rural area so people coming to stay need to be content with the quiet and simple things of life.
We are a smallholding of 4.5 hectares, mainly covered with cork oaks. We are cultivating a large garden organically and we are changing the way we garden this autumn through to spring.. We plan to expand tree planting for more fruit trees, indigenous trees and possibly vines. Animals are central to our life here - we have 5 horses, one mule, 4 dogs, 6 cats, chickens and duck. We feel that it is important to have a good connection with the land and the animals.
We are on solar power and water is from our own bore hole. Accommodation is in a 2 person caravan. We do have a small tent that could also be used. We eat a varied diet and some of our veg is coming from the garden. we like to cook but we also enjoy the cooking of others. There are miles of Atlantic beaches 20k away and we will certainly try to get you there during your time with us.
We will be putting up the tipi in March so need help to prepare the site.
Woodwork and general building and fencing are the skills we are looking for as soon as possible.
We also welcome help with the animals and gardening.
The most important qualities that a wwoofer should have are flexibility, a love of animals.and being okay with their own company.

1. Gardening. Setting up irrigation
2. At the moment someone who can help with some basic woodwork jobs, e.g., gates, duck/chicken houses, fencing, making another compost toilet and shower etc. would be great.
