Terra Alegre (Joyfull Land) is located at the foothills of the Serra da Estrela Mountain. We are a young couple with two kids and we dream of slowly making this place more beautifull, sustainable and productive. This place was once very productive with cereals, wine, corn and potatoes and many types of fruits, but it was abandoned on the early 80's.
We are both biologists and buddhists that look for a way of life working with nature and not against it and respecting, as much as possible, those who lived here before. We have just finished our straw bale house, which has a few interesting eco-friendly technologies and building techniques.
Wwoofers are welcome to stay with us in a cozy caravan or in a guest room in the main house. They can also camp anywhere if they wish.
We have already built a dam, where we can swim in the hot summer, an irrigation system and planted 1.2 ha of blueberries and red currants.
We have a few projects and ideas we want to accomplish such as: a small lake, organic vegetable garden, chicken yard, barn, recover an old stone house, etc.
