Bevindo a Sitio do Cabo, Ponta do Pargo
Hi wwoofers ! We are a Belgian couple, Johan and Nastja and have two kids, Myrko (7) and Tika (4).Johan is an experienced gardener and musician, Nastja is a wonderfull cook and jewelry maker and the kids love to make new friends !
We came here in 1997. Since then, our garden grows every year with a lot of work to be done.We now are looking for people that can help us to maintain the garden and for future projects.
All year round we can use help in different aspects of gardening and farm life.
For the moment we are working on a project near the sea. It is a very special place , a bit difficult to reach, a few terraces down from the main road, only accessable by steps. We want to do some agriculture there and build a small wooden house. Experience with wood building and construction would be agreat help. The terraces are surrounded by big stone walls that will also need some new parts, stairs, etc.
A composttoilet is also on the list.
Day by day jobs in our garden include seed sowing; weeding; digging; growing and care of food-producing and other plants. We also ask you to help in the kitchen and to take care of the children once in a while.
Here we have a very moderate climate all year around, temperatures between 15 and 25°C. We prefer wwoofers to stay with us for at least a month, so we have enough time to get to know each other and share each others lifestyle. We provide a guestroom with double bed and private bathroom, so one or two people at the same time is best. We are all-eaters but vegeterian meals are no problem. If you like to cook, Nastja always likes to learn about new cooking experiences.
We would like you to work with us during the week, although the hours and days are flexible, as things we do always depend on the weather and on how work advances. We really need people that are interested in what they are doing.
This means for us; willing to work a few hours per day, smart enough to identify seedlings whilst taking out the bad weeds, willing to make your hands dirty.
Sometimes you will have to work on your own. We will also do some construction, so some knowledge about mixing cement, building stones, etc., would be nice.
In weekends you can go for a swim or explore the rest of the island. Swimming, hiking, surfing, paragliding, boattrips and much more to do during days off.
With us you can learn a lot about growing plants, transforming them into compost, food, wine, and other things that make life more comfortable and about enjoying the gifts of nature!
Welcome !
