AlentejoFoodforest

We are at the beginning of a food forest to build up and have already over 200 fruit trees planted.
If you are interested in building a healthy soil like Terra Preta and have an insight into the construction of a food forest you are very welcome. We also need help in cleaning the land, the vegetable garden and with our animals.

The concept of a food forest has its roots in permaculture, a philosophy that advocates for managing agricultural landscapes in harmony with nature. The practice emphasizes perennial, low-maintenance crops that leverage natural nutrient inputs, drainage patterns and climate to achieve a self-sustaining, food-producing ecosystem. A food forest is quite literally a forest that produces food for people to eat. Nut and fruit-producing trees and shrubs are planted with herbs, vines and ground flora that produce fruits, vegetables, and edible greens and roots.

We have various projects depending on the seasons like building a chickentractor , planting trees, building soil, producing Charcoal to build Terra Preta and many other creativ jobs.

Terra Preta , "black soil" in Portuguese is a type of very dark, fertile manmade soil found in the Amazon Basin. It is also known as "Amazonian dark earth" or "Indian black earth".

Terra Preta owes its characteristic black color to its weathered charcoal content and was made by adding a mixture of charcoal, bone, and manure to the otherwise relatively infertile Amazonian soil. A product of indigenous soil management and slash-and-char agriculture, the charcoal is very stable and remains in the soil for thousands of years, binding and retaining minerals and nutrients.
