Responsibility ?

Forums:

Expired user

Hi, I'm new to WOOF, working on a farm and been given almost sole charge of many animals, cattle, pigs, hens etc. Never worked on a farm before, am generally competent and intelligent but inexperienced in this work, which the owner knew in advance. Have had 1 days guidance from the owner, who is around to answer questions but also very busy with other things. Have had to write out my own set of instructions to keep track of the convoluted arrangements and requirements.
Is this usual practice ? It feels a little unsafe and possibly not in the best interests of the animals.

Hi there!

I would say that it isn't an "usual practice" on WWOOF.
There are hundreds of Hosts and thousand of volunteers and what is important is that everybody is comfortable.
If you are not feeling comfortable with all this responsibility, may I suggest you to kindly talk with your host?
Sometimes the hosts are so busy and the WWWOOFers are so nice that the host don't notice that there is a problem. I am sure he/she will understand your situation.

Best wishes,

Thanks for your reply Rodrigo. Unfortunately a number of issues developed with both living and working conditions so I left (as did several other woofers around the same time, unconnected to me). Not a place in Sweden but one of the independent contries. Live and learn I guess. Cheers.

Hi!

I am sorry to hear about that.
Please have in mind that it is very important that you report this situation to the coordinator!

Best wishes,

Rodrigo
