Host AC008

  • Hello to all, I spent a month from mid January to mid February with Raquel and her family 2017. During that time Raquel was a generous and caring host. It's a busy house with 2 small children, a sometimes work at home partner and 2 dogs. The day can begin early especially if you are a light sleeper as the children are awake often before 6am. It's a great place to be if you enjoy children and watching them learn and develop. If you do not have the patience to take time with them then this may not be the right place for you.
I arrived expecting warmer weather and Raquel kindly supplied me with extra clothes.
Food was vegetarian with fresh salads every day from the garden. I had my own bedroom.
Because the children are small Raquel cannot spend a lot of time with you in the garden so it's a bonus if you have some experience and can work alone. I found her to be a good communicator and clear with her instructions.
The area of Jao Bon is very quiet at night but If the weather is good there are lot of walking trails and places to see during daylight hours.
For me this wwoofing host family were a great introduction to the Azores. They took me on family outings, showed me local places of interest, especially associated with bird watching and were generous with their time and information.
The bus stops outside the door and the only negative I can think of is the noise of the local tractors in the morning on the road which is country life here.
I would recommend Raquel and her family for a good wwoofing experience.

  • Hello !
Jonny be good is a wonderful farm, located near some of the most beautiful places of the Sao Miguel island.
You can wake up and contemplate the sea, walk to the cliffs with a 10 mns walk and to the volcanoes or the beach with a 1 hour walk!
The garden is much diversified, and so are the tasks!
We enjoyed the great weather, and the excellent food, healthy and varied!
But most of all, what made our stay unforgettable is the kindness of our hosts, Raquel, Gerbi and Tomé! They really made us feel welcome! And they shared with us a lot more than only gardening! There was, for example, Gerbi’s passion for birds and darts, Raquel’s great energy and thoughts on how to always better things and put ideals in practice, and Tomé’s curiosity, impressive fearlessness and affection! And they would always want us to feel comfortable and be worried that we would get tired working too much! And thanks to them, we enjoyed great afternoons on the beach, or doing kayak!
We are very thankful for that great experience, and we feel lucky that we met such a nice family!
We felt our stay was too short and we are planning to come back!
In the meanwhile, if you need more information don’t hesitate to contact us! We definitely recommend this farm!

  • I stayed at this farm for a month and had an excellent time. There was good accommodation, delicious food, and a variety of work, but the hosts made the experience unforgettable. They were very patient in teaching me each job so that I could perform independently, and I learned so much, including more than gardening. Sometimes their son took up a lot of their time and the work seemed overwhelming at points but they didn't let me overwork myself. In my spare time they gave me suggestions for things around the island, and they occasionally took me on some exciting excursions. Again I would highly recommend this homestead. Send me a message if you would like more information.

PS Ask Raquel to bring to the organic farm in Capelas-- it's a magical place that really inspired me

  • Great! It´s place where you are welcomed to bring in your own ideas and learn a lot from them, not only about gardening.
I spent just one week there what should have been longer but even it was just a short
time I felt very well from the beginning.
Raquel and Gerbi are very friendly and openminded.
They helped me to fill my time with experiences, trips and walks
    I won´t forget that fast.
And the little householder Tomé also welcomed me to be part
    of their place.
If you have the possibility to come, I would recommend you to take the chance.
