Host AG052

  • I had a wonderful stay last summer at Quinta do Mocho.

When I arrived at the airport in Faro I took the bus to Lagoa, a small town close to the farm. Susanne picked me up at the busstop.

She was a wonderful host these two weeks I was there! Always willing to explain things about the area and to give advice about the beaches en where to go. The wwoofer-house is small and cozy and it has a good and clean kitchen (water in the shower is cold). Several times we had breakfast or lunch together and that was really nice!

I stayed in a van that was parked in the garden. In the beginning I had to get used to the sound of the traffic (the farm is close to a busy road) but it was a perfect stay. The van is small but it has a good bed and a mosquito net (you will really need it!)

The farm is close to several beautiful beaches! In the mornings I always worked on the chars Susanne gave me (cleaning/painting/working in the garden) and in the afternoon I usually went to one of the beaches in the neighborhood. I really enjoyed that!

After a week I decided to do a short part of a beautiful trail: la via algarviana. The path starts at the borden with Spain and goes all the way to the west coast. I only walked a few stages because in summertime it was to hot and to quiet to walk. But I will definitely will come back to walk the whole trail. Beautiful!

  • My experience at Quinta do Mocho was great! Susanne is an excellent host, she was very responsive on the messaging system of the WWOOF website, and she picked me up from the bus station when I arrived in Lagoa. She was also very available throughout my stay (thank you again for the power adapter), and she shared a lot of information on the area as well as many good tips on where to go and what to see.

Work for me included some gardening and some construction. Even though I stayed for only few days, I learned a lot and really enjoyed my outdoor activities. You should bring a hat, work gloves and sun protection, while boots are not necessary. Sport shoes should be enough.

The WWOOFers' accommodation has all what you need, with a fully equipped kitchen (very clean) and a bathroom with shower (with combi boiler, which means you don’t run out of hot water). Towels and bed linen are also provided.

Besides juicy oranges (53 trees as of today!), Susanne grows many vegetables at the farm, including lettuce, tomatoes and herbs. With the basil you can make delicious fresh pesto :) The surrounding area is also nice to explore, and Quinta do Mocho itself is 3-4 Km away from 3 beaches. There are 3 bikes, so you can get there in about 15 minutes.

I had a great time at Quinta do Mocho, and I definitely recommend it to anyone.

  • Susanne is a very kind woman, and working at Quintana do mocho was great. I've never eaten more delicious oranges in my life! Hard work= fruit never tasted so good ;) I felt that Susanne had confidence I me as a worker, Which I appreciated. Susanne would frequently assign me a list of tasks for me to sort out my own way and leave me to do things the way I thought best. She also showed me around her corner if the world after work, which I found fun. I was never bored there. If you have a day off, go to th coast. It is breathtaking. The water is chilly, but on a hot day it is very refreshing.
    Danke Susanne.
    Wwoof at quinta do mocho!

  • I spend two weeks in March at Susannes beautiful and peaceful farm. It was my first experience as a wwoofer and I liked it a lot. The work was very diverse and I liked every single work I had to do. (For example gardening, weeding, digging holes and collecting stones for constructions and of course everything that had to do with the orange trees.)
Susanne is a lovely, open-minded and uncomlpicated woman. She will always give you work that would suit you so nothing becomes boring or too exhausting which is great.
On the farm is a little hut where the wwoofers are staying. There is almost non privacy but I got used to it very fast. In the hut is everything you need, a toilet, a shower and a kitchen (where you can always make fresh juice from the best and sweetest oranges you have ever eaten!). As warm as it was at daytime, as cold it was in the evenings and mornings - so be prepared for cold nights.
On your free day you can spend the whole day at one of the beautiful beaches close to the farm. It takes about 1h by foot and it is defenitely worth to go there.
Quinta do Mocho is a place where you can just live in the present, caring for an orange tree, feeling the sun on your skin, the chickens and the cat around you, the wind in your hair and the birds singing. Go and experience yourself!

  • Muinta do Mocho was my first place to experience things as a wwoofer. So most of the works there, was a whole new thing for me. But I had no fear or worry doing all those stuff ( like chopping woods or doing gardening and planting or even doing construction and painting.. ). Because Sussane lets you do it your way. lets you to be creative. On the other hand if you need help, will definitely help and guide you.

I spent two weeks there in March. each day had something new to offer. along with other wwoofers, we used to start in the morning and usually everything was done before evening. the working hours were not strict and there was absolutely no pressure. everything was based on cooperation and also joy.

Sussane has a lovely garden. Lots of Orange trees which need caring and love. and in return they offer you the most fresh and juicy oranges you've ever had ( I say this without exaggerating ). Garden is located a couple Kilometers to Ocean. A 30-minute walk to Lagoa. And there are two bikes that wwoofers can use to go around.

I've learnt a lot in this period. not only about farming and gardening, but also have learnt about myself from a whole different point of view.

  • Quinta do Mocho is just a perfect place to go!! if you consider wwoofing at Susanne´s orange garden, go ahead, you will have a wonderful time ;) everything is just good - cute outside wwoofers place to stay, Susanne & Puggy & Iris & chicken & duck the king & wwoofers... and the beaches and towns around... and the easy easy way of work and doing things... just go and try and I bet you want to stay longer, Im definitely coming back :) Obrigada e beijonhos Susanne :-*

  • Lovely little place with a great host...good work but with lots of time of your own to do with as you please...

  • The farm is a beautiful place to spend time and Susanne is brilliant host. The nearby area is very picturesque, with amazing beaches just a short distance away, perfect for visiting after work. It is also well placed for discovering other parts of the region, such as the mountains and cities like Lagos. I would recommend Quinta Do Mocho to any wwoofers!

  • Qunita do Mocho is such a wonderful place. And Susanne makes it perfect with her friendly and lovely character. Everyone should feel like home and with other people you will enjoy the work and the place. Be open minded and Susannes organic orange farm is the right wwooof experience for you! Just go and enjoy!

  • Quinta do Moch was absolutely lovely. Susanne has a beautiful property and was a great host. Living conditions were nice and it is situated in a gorgeous area, perfect for exploring after work! I would highly recommend this host and I know she would be beyond thankful for the help, she's a very hard working woman!
