  • This summer, I had a wonderful time at Afonso's and Marie's farm in Odeceixe. Even though I was only there for one week, I got every opportunity to work, learn and contribute to the farm and household. Marie, Afonso and their son live on a beautiful farmland in the Alentejan hills. Besides the daily work in the house, there are plenty of things to do in the medronho orchards and in the vegetable garden. In your spare time, there's plenty of opportunity to discover the surrounding nature or go the lovely beaches around Odeceixe, which are only at 5 km from the farm. Marie and Afonso are also the most welcoming people you can imagine. They are ready to give you a good time, put you to work and teach you all they know about farming. I am definitely going back!

  • I spent 2 weeks there during the Medronho Harvest season and I had a great time. Marieka and Afonso are super friendly and welcoming, and they really take the time and care to share their passion and knowledge about medronho and about their lifestyle, I had fun but I also learned a lot.

The wwofers accomodation is great, a fully equiped caravan with kitchen, toilettes, hot water and wifi, a real luxury!
In the farm they also have an organic vegetable patch for self-consumption and we would prepare homecooked meals for lunch and dinner with the greens and veggies they grow.
We would work about 5 hours a day, in different tasks, it was usually medrohono picking or taking care of the vegetable garden in the morning, and more relaxed tasks in the afternoon like making jam and preserves. We would also go to pick medronho from other farms in the region, so we had the chance to visit other projects and meet more wwoofers which was nice.
And since the farm is very close to the sea, we would go to the beach and surfing almost everyday afterwork.

Afonso and Marieka are the ideal wwoofing hosts, they really welcomed us like their own, and made sure we felt confortable. We would have lunch and dinner all together and share a lot of moments, I think I hadn't felt so at home in a while.

  • I spent 5 months at Sobral and really enjoyed my time there. The place is really nice and offers a lot of opportunity for creativity. Afonso and Marieke are wonderful hosts, a joy to engage in a conversation with and always up for a laugh. One can also expect to be treated to some nice food (and possibly improve their cooking skills). To burn the calories the area offers many options for hiking or cycling and, of course, some spectacular beaches, arguably among the best in Europe. All in all, I would not be surprised to find myself coming for another stay.

  • The balance between work and free time is perfect and the lifestyle there is very nice. We normally picked wild medronhos in the mountain during mornings and cooked or made some light constructions after lunch. The afternoons we used to go to the beach and surf!
About the food, we ate amazing food from the organic garden every day. The menu varies a lot, but even if you are vegetarian or vegan it is a good place to go.

  • This place is amazing! The hosts are really friendly and they make you feel at home. We lived in the caravan which was really spacious and comfortable. Everything you need is there. The amount of work is perfect; around 6 hours a day. You have the weekend off and they lend you the bicycles to go explore the surroundings! Afonso is really flexible on the different tasks. Moreover, we ate together during the week and we ate in the caravan during the weekend. We ate a lot of vegetables from the garden which was nice! This place is really great, so stop looking and apply!
