You are welcome at Monte do Covao: its a great opportunity to get acquainted with the relaxed southern Europe life style and to absorb the Portuguese surroundings. We, Bert and Inez, have got nine hectares of land, mostly with Cork Oak in a beautiful valley and we have also fruit trees. We're working for a biodiversity in a natural way and landscaping bit by bit.
Your work will be five hours a day for six days and if you leave in the weekend you work five days. Maintaining, cleaning and forming the land in your personal ability, under our governance. It depends on the season what kind of activity will be necessary. Your work will not be too heavy by the pressure of yield but more by the strong nature elements.
You will stay in our caravan up hill with a out-door toilet. There is a separated kitchen. Around the guesthouse is a perfect free WiFi connection. The nearest little food shops, café's and restaurants are on a walking distance - through the forest - of 2km. When you arrive we can pick you up from the train station of Funcheira or the bus stop in Reliquias. Info: www.cp.pt and www.rede-expressos.pt http://www.rodalentejo.pt/html/default.asp
You cook for your self with the ingredients we will supply.
Because we are travelers, we started slowly a project of a tree garden and peranial edible and medicinal wild plants. We want to let them grow here in all the species which are possible in this climate. Native and foreign wild plants. Info www.flora-on.pt
Besides your working hours you're free to go anytime to anyplace, the seaside is about 30km from here. Nearby there is a swimming pond on walking distance and there is the large Santa Clara lake further away.
There are meditation / alternative life style communities around, such as www.Mooji.org and www.Tamera.org , but also a lot of typical Alentejano cafe's , community parties , cultural and farmers festivals and, of course, the normal daily life to meet.
There is a chance you will be the only wwoofer at a moment and working alone. If you prefer company: bring a friend!
Its an enjoyable and good staying here.
