This is a smallholding eco quinta located on the banks of the Dão river in the Beira Alta region of central Portugal. A perfect place for people who want to be surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty, experience rural Portugal, and enjoy the comfort of a small and social community. The MdD is managed by a Dutch/American couple and a rotating group of long-time volunteers. We are located directly on the river Dão, partly within an ecological reserve. Over the course of 26 years this former miller's farm has been turned into an off-grid, partially self-sustaining homestead, rural tourism business and artist-in-residency program...and a place loved and visited by many.
In 2017–18 we will be expanding our food producing garden, work on upgrades in our building facilities and ongoing landscape/forestry management. For the spring and fall months we are looking for volunteers who can work in our vegetable garden, assist with general terrain and facilities maintenance, and random building projects. For the summer months of July and August we are looking for volunteers with garden/landscape background and/or with experience/interest in cooking and guest support services.
If you are interested in volunteering with us as a resident-worker, please send us a message with some information about yourself and why you'd like to volunteer here. We organize WWOOFers at least 30 days in advance, and prefer 1 month stays.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!
