Since April I live on my beautiful farm. First in a little ruin. Now outside. And hopefully this winter in a renovated house.
First things I did was preparing a garden, seeding a lot of different trees and building a compost heap. This seemed to me the most important things to start a self-sufficient lifestyle.
Atm there is an outside kitchen, compost toilet, a yurt used as storage room, a water basin to cool down, a caravan woofers can use, and even ..(I'm not yet used to it) electricity!
There are a lot of things to be done. Daily tasks are gardening, watering, cooking... A lot of the work involves cleaning the land; cutting down death trees, making firewood, preparing trees to use as building materials... In winter there is the olive harvest, pruning, burning fires and some reforestation.
And there are some building projects.
In time I want to create from this already beautiful place a "garden of Eden" using forest garden principles... Although it seems there is much to do, I've got a lifetime to do it. So I would like to find a balance between the work that must be done and some more creative, fun things to do.
About me: (because I'm not active on Facebook, and want to keep it this way) My name is Melchior. I'm 30 year old, born in Portugal, but lived most of my life in Belgium. I love nature! I'm a quiet, peaceful person. And the rest you'll have to discover yourself.
