In 2014 I purchased a beautiful, secluded, neglected olive farm in Central Portugal.
With the help of my girlfriend Julia and literally hundreds of workaways, I have been slowly refurbishing the house and land, including the installation of PV solar and a natural swimming pool (due for completion Dec 2018).

As well as the large farmhouse and even larger "Chicken Hotel" ruin, the valley currently has 5 terraces of organic veg, over 200 olive trees (many of which still need major pruning), several hectares of cork oak forest and 5 springs. We have recently cleared large areas of pine/eucalyptus which we would like to replant as food forest. We also have a flat field we are hoping to use to grow hemp next year. We have just built a chicken house which we hope to stock in Nov 2018.

The farmhouse can sleep up to 40 (in private and dorm rooms) but usually there is between 4 and 10 people staying, although this can vary daily. Menina the cat and Tasca the dog, who are both very sweet, also share our home.
The house has electricity, heating, hot water, slow WiFi and a great view.

We work no more than 25 hours a week. Daily start times varies according to the weather. We often arrange Sunday outings for our volunteers and have a small motorboat for trips out on the local lakes.

The restoration and improvement work here is funded by my London folk music pub, The Harrison in Kings Cross and we have carried the folk music theme on in Portugal. The house is full of instruments and we have regular parties with local and international musicians. I also hold annual music festivals at the farm and in town.

From WWOOF we are looking for help realizing the potential of all the land and water we have here.
The help you provide, depending on your skills, can range from simple weeding in the veg patch, to planning and building large scale ground works and irrigation. We are only interested in working in environmentally friendly ways and are very keen to increase the wildlife in the area.

Long term/permanent stays (inc. a small allowance and/or profit share) are a possibility for serious gardeners.
