update ( 17-10-16) we are picking olives at the moment.
if anyone is interested in learning how to prune and keep olives, now is the best time to see it being done.
......I am a painter/musician/designer creating a serpent shaped multi-variety orchard with more than 200 young recently planted fruit trees & bio-diverse gardens on an eastern slope down to a small rivulet. These young trees need tending and mulching etc.
We try to maintain the farm on a bio-sustainable footing, using mainly what we grow to sustain ourselves, buying in as little as possible....all planting and harvesting is with this in mind.
I have 28 goats and they need pasturing or feeding each day.
75 old olives and 20 figs in the ancient orchard.
We have more than half of the vegetable garden planted using the Permaculture philosophy of both Fukuoka and Hazelips. These 100 raised beds and vegetable towers need tending, weeding and replanting on a continuous basis....the 15 ground beds are rotational & seasonal.
I have a wood-fired bread oven and wwoofers will help make the bread and pizzas when necessary. We often make focaccia using the fresh herbs and oil from recent olive and herb crop.
There is a computer with internet for a small weekly fee for wwoofer access in communal living room ,also the village community centre has WIFI available to all.
wwoofer sleeping area with beds located in the studio downstairs at ground garden level .One room sleeps 2, the other sleeps 4. this studio is also a library so there are many art books and novels to read in english and portuguese.
there is a bathroom downstairs for wwoofer use.
wwoofers work six days a week for five to six hours a day depending on the season.
I offer a normal breakfast, lunch and dinner.
to find out how easy it is to get to the farm go to "DIRECTIONS". on the host page on the left.
