WWOOF in Azores

WWOOFing opportunity on the middle of the Atlantic

Authentic people surrounded by the Atlantic. This is the best description I could find about the Azores (Açores in Portuguese).
There are nine islands in the Azorean archipelago divided in 3 groups. The Oriental and most isolated group with Flores and Corvo, the central group with Faial, Pico, Terceira, São Jorge and Graciosa, and the ocidental group with São Miguel and Santa Maria.

You can find a huge amount of nice things to do in the islands such as volcano climbing, whale watching, hiking inside dense forests, wandering between the docked sailing boats that are crossing the Atlantic or just bathing in naturally heated waters for the lazy ones :-)

I compiled some information on how to get there and how to travel between the islands that could be useful to WWOOFers. There are more inter-island connections - and also Azores to mainland connections - in the summer than there are in the winter. Travel to the Azores: Unfortunatelly there is no passenger boat service from the mainland to the Azores. All the islands have airports and during the high season you can find direct flights from Lisbon, Oporto, Madeira Island, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Spain and England. Travel between the islands:
You can travel between the islands by boat or airplane.
The airplane service is provided by SATA while the boat service is provided by Atlantico Line and by Transmacor on the central islands.
I strongly suggest boat travelling. It is cheaper, slow and you can feel a little bit of the Atlantic in your heart and sometimes on your stomach too :-)
If you are under 30 years old you can buy a Inter-Jovem card for 50 Euros that will allow you to travel by boat for one year for only 5 Euros per travel! Wishing you a nice WWOOFing experience on Açores.
