At Sobral we are developing an organic and sustainable business model that is perfectly integrated with nature and at the same time connected with the local community.
The activities are divided in two : the “Medronho” (strawberry tree fruit) and gardening.
Firstly, planting, caring, picking, distillation and bottling of medronho is the core business of the company. We have an orchard of around 2000 of these shrubs and on top of that we are exploring over 80ha of natural forest where these 'trees' grow spontaneously. The majority of these fruits we use to make a local schnapps that we are now selling in specific stores and bars.
Secondly, we grow our own vegetables for own consumption but also we have started to sell some of the production in local restaurants and soon, families.
We are constantly working to improve infrastructures and landscape. We are always looking for motivated wwoofers to help us improve and maintain the vegetable garden and help or lead on specific building projects. From September until January, our main focus is on maintaining the medronho forests and harvesting the fruits.
Our community is composed by the owners and a team of 3 residents. The latter help welcoming wwoofers and organising the tasks. During our free time, we like to go to the beach, surf, play some music, attend events happening around and enjoy nature in this wonderful region.
