Our beautiful farmhouse is set in 3 hectares of
woodland, olive groves, vineyards and fruit orchards with magical gardens, waterfalls and streams. We are in the process of restoring this beautiful place (the farm having been abandoned for fifty years) to be as self sufficient as possible by growing as much as we can using organic methods and permaculture. We need help with a variety of work, from preparing and planting the extensive vegetable garden, weeding, mulching, pruning trees, clearing, cutting and burning to more experienced work (carpentry and building skills) such as building a new compost area, a chicken house, a cabin for a sauna and lots of fencing to keep the chickens in and the wild boar out of the garden. We are also planning, later this year, to convert a small cottage on our land for the use of our guests and woofers.
The farmhouse is totally secluded yet only a 12 minute walk down to the
river beach and summer bar in the village of Benfeita in the valley below. It has it's own solar electricity supply, solar water heating and a compost toilet. It is very spacious and comfortable with two wide verandas with breathtaking views of the mountains. We have a comfortable room at the top of the house for our woofers and friends. There is large shared living room, kitchen, bathroom, compost toilet and also a third bedroom which we offer our bed and breakfast visitors. If you would like to camp, there are also beautiful places on the land where you can make your own camp though you would need to bring your own tent. We have wi-fi but not an abundant supply so limited to emails and short periods of usage. There is a washing machine. Bedding and towels are provided, but bring your own towel for swimming. There is a great pool and river beach only a short walk through the woods where you can chill out after work on the farm! In the village of Benfeita there is also bar and cafe, a tennis court, shop and a post office. Just a short walk away are the stunning waterfalls of Fraga da Pena as well as lots of beautiful walks up in the mountains and river valleys. You may also choose to relax in one of our hammocks and take in the breath taking views. Our four very friendly cats will be available to provide lessons in relaxation. We are both, artists and musicians so we welcome anyone to bring along their guitars or other instruments . We enjoy having an evening jam together or listening to live music
We provide breakfast, lunch and evening meal and appreciate help in the kitchen too.( Fun to exchange new recipes and working together using ingredients as much as possible from our garden)
We have been blessed to have the fortune to be able to restore this stunning farm and our aim is to bring back this magical place to its original state. Its a lot of hard work so we really appreciate people here who want also to enjoy, and take part in this vision and be willing and prepared to work hard. We ask our woofers to work for 5 hours a day The working week is five days with two days off at the weekends. The times of the work will vary depending on the weather. For instance, in the summer when it can be very hot we like to start early and avoid the middle of the day.
We do not provide any health or safety insurance so you will need to provide that for yourself prior to your arrival. There is no smoking in the house.
We look forward to your stay.
