I've asked two questions on here, both of which have been read over 100 times and I've sent six woofing request's. and I received one answer and that was because i emailed the guy, he said he had problems with the wwoof site. is this why no one replys? im hitchhiking from berlin to barcelona as my half way point to portugal. at least some sort of reply would be nice by the time i'm there.

Hi Joe,
The Forum isn't the best place to post Hosting request, you may contact the hosts through email or Hosting request.
Please have in mind that most of the hosts are busy with the farm work so they won't check too often their emails.
Wish you good luck,
Rodrigo

Hello!
I have had the same experience while looking for a host in Moldavia. I have contacted at least 6 different hosts and haven´t gotten any answers. Frustrating... Is it possible to just show up at their farms and ask for work?

Hi Anne,

I don't recommend at all to show up without notice, probably you will not have a place to you on the farm.

As a last resource you may try to phone the farmer (using Skype or a similar system)?

Best wishes,

personally i'm too busy, sometimes, to answer all requests.

I think that wwoofers are exausting hosts pacience because of this:

Several times voluntiers shoot emails to every farms engaging conversations with several farms at the same time to work in the same period. In the end they just choose one and decline the rest. Problem for the host is that looses time talking to the voluntiers and answering their questions, exchanging several emails and in the end we get a answer like this: Sorry but my plans have change. I won't be going to your farm anymore. After 3 or 4 voluntiers who do this, the hosts is starts to consider the effort of answering all and everyone because it's time consuming and can became a 'pain in the ass' to recieve 5 messages a day all year.

I try to answer but the most effective method for the wwoofers latetly is to call directly to the phone and ask: can I come from this to this day?

Try it. It cost money but its more effective.

Thankyou for your replys everyone. In my opinion the very point of this site is for people who've paid a membership to be able to send a hosting request and receive a reply at least semi promptly. after all most hosts have stated they check there emails once a day or once a week, why lie... Email, phone and skype should not be needed. As for Hosts finding themselves to busy to reply well that's unfortunate but just imagine how busy you'd be if you actually had to pay your workers. Often people who wish to wwooff dont have allot of money, why should they incur more expense contacting host through other means, it defeats the point of the site and paying membership. Fortunatley I've managed to find somewhere to work and stay through my own efforts. And I'm asking for my money back from wwoof Portugal as its been no use whatsoever.

Hi Simon,
I saw you had at least 4 replies and one on the same day you registered!
I don't see a reasons to complaint!

Hi,
It's been my experience too, that a lot of hosts don't bother to answer. In the last month I sent out about 6 requests via email as some hosts claim they receive emails better than the private messages. I still didn't get any replies.

I was all fixed up with one host, a German guy in the Algarve, but he suddenly cancelled - he and his wife were depressed and therefore not feeling too well. I have very little time left to find a new host and hope that the ones I've written to today will at least reply.

Cheers,

Trix :bang:
